What does Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) mean?

Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) lets you use your own LLM API key (from OpenAI, Gemini, or OpenRouter) with SurgeGraph. While SurgeGraph provides free Vertex writing credits to generate content, connecting your own API key is optional, unless you want to:

  • Generate more than 30 articles per month

SurgeGraph gives 30 free writing credits each month. To create more, you can either purchase additional credits or connect your API key to generate up to 2,000 articles per month. Using your own API key can also offer a cheaper rate for large-scale generation.

  • Use advanced features

Features like Flex and Knowledge require a connected API key.

  • Increase usage for Competitor Research

BYOK allows for higher usage limits (9,000 monitoring credits) in Competitor Research feature.

How to Bring Your Own Key to SurgeGraph

  1. Choose the LLM to connect

We recommend OpenAI, as it’s our main LLM for the platform. If you want more flexibility, OpenRouter lets you access multiple LLM models with a single API key.

  1. Create your API key

Create the API key from OpenAI/Gemini/OpenRouter. Make sure your payment method is added

  1. Add the API key in SurgeGraph

Go to Organization Settings > LLM Provider API Keys and enter your key.
